The Marabu charcoal used provides consistent heat, eliminating the need to refill your Kamado during grilling. This ensures you always get the most out of your grilling experience!

The name BBQ Flavour Marabu charcoal is derived from the Marabu tree, originally from Cuba. Despite not being native to Cuba, it was introduced from Africa in the nineteenth century. The charcoal is also sustainable due to an excess of Marabu plants.

 

What's the best charcoal?

 Marabu is truly ideal when paired with the YAKINIKU® Kamado. It allows for easy temperature control, achieving high temperatures and excelling in low & slow cooking techniques. For low & slow grilling, combining Marabu with BBQ Flavour smoking woods and chunks is recommended. Marabu burns at a consistent temperature for extended periods, imparting a delicious smoked aroma. BBQ Flavour charcoal and smoking woods complement each other perfectly, ensuring you always maximize your grilling potential.

 

Marabu charcoal is also suitable for open grilling, such as with a Shichirin. It can serve as a substitute for Binchotan charcoal due to its high carbon content (80-90%), ensuring controlled burning essential for skewer grilling and various BBQ techniques.

How do you know if charcoal is ready?

Charcoal is ready for use when the coals are glowing. Once the firelighters are burnt out, you can start grilling.

 

1. Fill your Kamado to the brim with Marabu charcoal. If you've used your Kamado before, shake the coal basket to remove excess ash before refilling with new charcoal.

 

2. Place 2-3 firelighters among the charcoal and ignite them using a match or lighter.

 

3. Once the firelighters have burnt out and the coals are glowing, you can start grilling your favorite recipes! As the coals begin to glow properly, adjust the vents to achieve your desired temperature. With Marabu charcoal's fine structure, you can achieve both low and high temperatures.
